Acacia Young Women Development Initiative

Who are we?
Acacia Young Women Development Initiative (AYWDI) is a registered non profit, non religious and non
partisan organization based in Nigeria. We work mostly with girls and young women between the ages
of 11 and 25 guiding them towards a successful life as they create positive change in their lives and
communities.

What do we do?
We work with:
Girls and young women who are in dire straits and in some cases considered hopeless.
Girls living in poor rural communities and conflict areas who are prone to all forms violence and
disadvantaged situations.
Young women who are living below the poverty line.
Uneducated girls and school drop outs.
We also work with young mothers grappling with self parenting.
Area of Focus:
Comprehensive sexuality/Reproductive health and rights education
Financial education and entrepreneurship
Leadership development and
Gender issues.

Why we do what we do?
We believe that girls have rights...
Girls need a safe space in which to learn about themselves, acquire new skills, and to advocate for their
needs and those of their sisters.
We want to catch them young...
Every young woman deserves opportunities to learn and grow and early adolescence is a time when
enduring patterns of principled values and healthy behavior can be established.
Girls are creative and productive...
If given the necessary tools and an opportunity to utilize their skills, positive attributes and local
resources, young women can become financially productive and contribute pro actively to their nations
development.
We want to help...
In order to recognize their worth, young women need to be supported in their efforts to grow into
successful women in control of their decisions. We will support and guide them.
